Jen Doyle Designs Product Care

This section has some of the most commonly asked questions about how to take care of your Jen Doyle Designs handmade accessory/jewellery. If you don't see an answer to your question here, please don't hesitate to send me a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Storage

When you are not using your accessory, keep it out of direct sunlight, in the box it came in to protect it from discolouration, dust and damage. To protect from tarnish, store in an airtight plastic box.

A Note on Tarnish

I use a wide variety of metal wires and components in my work. Tarnish is a naturally occurring process that happens when metals are exposed to air and moisture. Even non tarnish metals will tarnish over a period of time- depending on the levels of humidity in the air and how your accessory is stored.

I include an anti- tarnish strip with all my orders, but these will only last for a short time on their own. You can replace these strips but the best defence against tarnish is proper storage and care. As mentioned above, storage in an airtight container is the best way to protect against tarnish.

Cleaning

Due to the often intricate and somewhat delicate nature of a lot of my work, I don't recommend cleaning with a heavy hand.

If your accessory is dusty, then I suggest using a soft, clean make-up or artists brush to gently clean it. Water (rain, for example) shouldn't damage your accessory but I don't recommend immersing fully it into water. If you do get it wet, make sure it is thoroughly dry before storing it to avoid accelerated tarnishing.

Hairspray

This is really important so please take note that hairspray and other styling products can contain harsh chemicals that will cause often irreversible damage to natural stones and pearls, and cause discolouration on the coatings on glass pearls and beads. In order to avoid damaging, and to prolong the life of your accessory, I would advise that you only position your accessory in place after all the styling products have been used.

Prevention and proper storage are the key to making sure that your Jen Doyle Designs accessory will last a lifetime. If you can't find an answer to your question here, please don't hesitate to send me a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
